Women’s economic empowerment

08/03/2023

On International Women's Day, Head of the working group “Gender Equality”, Not. Cristina Armella, organised a webinar on Women’s economic empowerment. Notaries play a key role in this area with regard to legal advice and access to credit.

The theme was studied from a notarial and intercontinental point of view. From Europe, the Spanish notary, Concepción Pilar BARRIO DEL OLMO, presented the different notarial instruments for women’s entrepreneurship, and the lawyer Andrea MURILLO FALLAS showed how economic violence against women is an obstacle to their empowerment. Then, from Africa, the Senegalese notary, Fatou MBALLO THIAM, new President of the Themes and Congresses Commission, discussed about African women rights with regard to access to housing and land, and the Moroccan notary, Ratiba SEKKATE, gave her testimony on the economic emancipation of Moroccan women. Finally, from America, the Argentinean notary Karina Vanessa SALIERNO took us on a journey through the first women notaries in the world.
