International Day of Forests

21/03/2020

The United Nations General Assembly proclaimed 21 March the International Day of Forests in 2012.

Organized by the United Nations Forum on Forests and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) with governments and various partners, the International Day of Forests was implemented to raise awareness of the importance of forests worldwide.

2020 focuses on Forests and Biodiversity.

UINL works closely with FAO on the use of the Voluntary Guidelines on the Responsible Governance of Tenure of Land, Fisheries and Forests in the Context of National Food Security (FAO, 2012) within the systems of preventive administration of justice, and more specifically by notaries. UINL is convinced that notaries are crucial agent of changes in the responsible governance of tenure.

UINL is also a member of the International Land Coalition (ILC).  According to its own definition, ILC is a diverse network that bridges a wide range of views on land rights and governance but shares a common vision and values to catalyze joint action in country. On the International Day of Forests, ILC celebrates « not only the forests that continue to breathe life into our planet, but also the everyday guardians of these rich, yet fragile ecosystems ».
