First dialogue between legal systems in London

27/09/2023

As part of President Lionel Galliez's work program, a first dialogue between civil law and common law systems took place in London on September 26, 2023 at the historic hall of the Apothecaries Company, to which senior representatives of civil-law, common-law and other notarial bodies were invited.

The theme of the meeting, organized by the International Union of Notaries together with the Society of Scrivener Notaries, was the added value of the notary’s intervention in private and commercial transactions, in particular the evidentiary force of the notarial act and its probative force in different jurisdictions.

One of the aims of the Lionel Galliez Presidency is to establish a dialogue between legal systems. The goal of the dialogue is to foster greater understanding between notaries practising within various legal systems, and to discuss their respective roles within those systems. However much those roles may differ, notaries share a common purpose in offering legal security, both to those who use their services and to those who place reliance on their acts.
